Guide for Authors

Double-blind peer review

The journal follows a double-blind reviewing procedure. This means a rigorous evaluation process in which both the authors and the reviewers remain anonymous to each other throughout the review cycle. This approach helps to eliminate potential biases based on authors’ identities, affiliations, or reputations, thereby promoting fairness and impartiality in the assessment of the manuscript. By focusing exclusively on the quality, originality, and scientific merit of the submitted work, double-blind peer review supports higher standards of objectivity and credibility in scholarly publishing. These rules should be followed:

  • Authors must remove names, institutional affiliations, and any other information that could identify them from the manuscript and all supplementary files.
  • Citations of the author’s own previous work should be presented in a manner that does not compromise anonymity.
  • Manuscripts presenting original research or secondary analyses of original data will be evaluated by a minimum of two independent reviewers.

Declaration on the Use of Generative AI in Scientific Writing

This guidance applies solely to the writing process and does not cover the use of AI tools for data analysis or research insights.

When authors use generative artificial intelligence (AI) or AI-assisted technologies in preparing their manuscripts, these tools should be used only to enhance language clarity and readability. Such use must remain under human supervision and control, with authors thoroughly reviewing and editing the output, as AI-generated text can sometimes be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. AI tools should not be credited as authors or co-authors, nor cited as such, since authorship carries responsibilities that only humans can fulfill.

Authors must clearly disclose in their manuscript any use of AI or AI-assisted technologies during the writing process, as a statement of such use will appear in the published article. Please remember that authors are fully responsible and accountable for the content of their work.

Open Access and Article Processing Charge (APC):

Starting in 2025, all accepted publications will be exempt from article-processing charges (APCs). This initiative is generously funded by the Faculty of Graduate Studies for Statistical Research at Cairo University, which will fully cover the publication costs.

Manuscript Requirements

Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished work that is not under consideration elsewhere. Authors should follow the journal’s formatting guidelines, including font size, margin settings, and reference style. Manuscripts should include a clear title, abstract, keywords, main text, references, and any necessary tables or figures, each properly labeled and cited within the text. Authors must ensure their work is written in clear, professional English and free of typographical errors. Additionally, all authors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest and provide relevant ethical approval statements if applicable. Manuscripts that do not adhere to these requirements may be returned without review.

Submission

The online submission platform will guide the author step by step through entering their article information and uploading the necessary files. The system will combine these files into a single PDF for use during peer review. Editable formats, such as Microsoft Word, are required for typesetting the final published version. All communication, including editorial decisions and revision requests, will be handled via email.

Type of submission:

  • Research Article
  • Descriptive Article
  • Review Article
  • Brief Report
  • Book Review

Online Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted through the “https://jicds.journals.ekb.eg/” link, following the on-screen instructions.

Title Page

Please ensure that your title page includes the following information.

Title

The title must be brief yet informative.

Author Information

  • Full names of all authors
  • Author affiliations, including institution, (department), city, (state), and country
  • The name and active email address of the corresponding author
  • The 16-digit ORCID identifier for each author, if available

If address details are included with affiliations, these will be published as well.

For authors who are (temporarily) unaffiliated, only their city and country of residence will be listed, unless they specifically request to include their email address.

Abstract

  • A short (up to 250 words), single-paragraph abstract should precede the manuscript's text.
  • The abstract should not contain any abbreviations or references.

Keywords

  • Authors must provide four to six keywords that can be used for indexing purposes.
  • Keywords play an important role in the discovery of your article after publication. Since many researchers rely on search engines such as Google to find content relevant to their field, keywords should be selected with care.

Tables

  • Tables should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals.
  • Tables should be created using the table function in Word and should not be inserted as images.
  • Tables should always be cited in the text in consecutive numerical order.
  • Give each table a brief title. Ensure that any superscripts or asterisks are shown next to the relevant items and that explanations are displayed as footnotes in the table.
  • Identify any previously published material by referencing the source at the end of the table caption.
  • Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data) and included beneath the table body.

Figures

  • Figures should be in high-resolution formats.
  • All figures should be submitted electronically, numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, and have clear captions.
  • All figures should be supplied at the highest resolution/quality possible, with numbers and text legible.
  • Both color and black-and-white files are allowed.

Electronic figures created in other applications should be supplied in original formats. They should also be copied and pasted into a blank MS Word document or PDF.

Formulas and Equations

  • Authors should use MathType or an equation editor (Word format) to create formulas and equations. Creating equations as pictures is not allowed.
  • Insert the equation into the text after referring to its equation number.
  • The equation number should be placed in parentheses and aligned to the right of the formula or equation.
  • Equations should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals to avoid ambiguities, if they are referred to in text. Equations should be cited using “(1),” not “Eq. (1)” or “equation (1),” except at the beginning of a sentence (e.g., “Equation (1) is…”).
  • Symbols and notation should be used consistently throughout the article. Standard mathematical notation should be used where possible. If a non-standard symbol or notation is necessary, it must be defined clearly when first used.
  • For physical quantities, the units and dimensions should be expressed clearly. The International System of Units (SI) is recommended.
  • If your article includes the proof of a theorem or formula, ensure the steps of the proof are clearly delineated and logical. If the proof is too long or complex to include in the body of the text, consider including it in an appendix.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors should declare any potential conflicts of interest or, if none exist, state : "The authors declare no conflict of interest." Specify any role that funders played in the research or its publication, or state: “The sponsors had no role in the design, execution, interpretation, or writing of the study.” Industry-funded studies must fully disclose funder involvement.

Funding sources

Authors must disclose any funding sources that provided financial support for the article's research and/or preparation. The role of sponsors, if any, in the study design, collection, analysis, interpretation of data, manuscript preparation, and the decision to submit the article for publication should be declared. If there are no funding sources, this should be stated in the submission as follows: "The authors declare that no funding was received for this research."

Acknowledgments of people, grants,  organizations, etc., should be placed at the end of the text before the reference list.

References

Preparing and formatting references

Submissions to “Journal of Intelligent Computing and Data Science” must be grounded in relevant and up-to-date peer-reviewed academic research, and this should be reflected in the accompanying reference list.

The Reference should follow the IEEE Reference Guide:http://journals.ieeeauthorcenter.ieee.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/IEEE_Reference_Guide.pdf

  • Authors are welcome to use online referencing tools in the preparation of their manuscripts. Some useful resources include RefMe, Zotero, EndNote, and Mendeley.
  • The citation of non-academic and non-peer-reviewed sources (e.g., blog posts, website content), as well as anonymous sources or commercial websites, should be avoided or kept to a minimum.
  • Reference lists should reflect the current state of knowledge in the field, avoid bias, and not include a high proportion of citations to the same authors or sources, schools of thought, etc.
  • The length of the reference list should be appropriate, depending on the article type, covering the relevant literature through sufficient referencing.
  • Authors should ensure that references are accurate, that all links are accessible, and that the citations adhere to the reference style outlined in the attached file.

Cite references in the text by the family name of the first author and the year in parentheses.

  • We encourage using Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) as reference links, as they provide a permanent link to the cited electronic article.
  • Before submission, it is essential to verify that all data in your reference list is accurate. This includes any references that have been copied. Providing correct reference data allows us to link to abstracting and indexing services such as Crossref and demonstrates your responsibility and diligence in your research. Any incorrect surnames, journal or book titles, publication years, or pagination within your references may prevent link creation.

How to submit your revision after double peer-review

  • The original submitting author must upload a point-by-point response letter to the comments as a PDF file. This must include a description of any additional experiments that were carried out and a detailed rebuttal of any criticisms or requested revisions that you disagreed with.
  • Any files (including the manuscript) that have changed based on the comments will also need to be uploaded again. Do not include tracked changes in your manuscript file. If you need to upload a marked-up version of the revised manuscript with the changes highlighted, you can upload it on the related file section.
  • Please note the original submitting author may be different from the corresponding author.
